This call, the “Mastwood™,” gets its name from the two mast-producing wood species from which this call is made. The white oak produces acorns, which are a preferred food source of the wild turkey as well as the white tail deer. Bookmatched curly white oak is used for the paddle and base. Black Cherry also produces a mast crop upon which the wild turkey flourishes. Bookmatched curly black cherry is used for the sound rails. The two in combination make for an awesome call all the way around. At 12" long with a 6 3/4" sound chamber, this call is capable of producing the shrill cadence of yelps which will drive those longbeards crazy! It is especially effective on windy days or when you want the sounds to reach to the farthest ends of your setup.

Category 23:
Striker

User entered description: The “barley twist” has been a woodworking feature on fine English and French furniture from as far back as the 1600s. The eye-catching and unique architecture inspired me to create a modified version of it on a turkey call striker. This tapered barley twist striker is made of curly black cherry and 7 1/2” long. Its architectural profile is labor-intensive to create and a hallmark of Mountain Music Game Calls. The shaft features a left twist, which is shaped, cut, and finished by hand, terminating in a flared tip. Its core is resin, pigmented emerald green, and runs through the entire center of the striker. A copper inlay appears on the head and is struck with the Mountain Music Game Call logo. It is finished so as to enhance the natural features of the wood. Subtle imperfections in the surface stand in mute testimony to its hand-made status and offer a careworn appearance suggesting many years of service afield luring longbeards to the gun.

Deer Call

User entered description: Whitetail deer are vocal animals. They can produce a variety of sounds. Deer calls from Mountain Music Game Calls can mimic a range of deer sounds from fawn and doe bleats to the deep, guttural grunts of a tending buck. This call is made using bookmatched figured black walnut stained and sealed with tung oil to enhance the most attractive features of this wood. I am a maker by hand of 18th Century rifles, pistols, and fowling pieces. I carry that genre through when creating my deer calls. The architectural profile of the “Impersonator”™ is inspired by the architecture of rifle barrels of this era and is a hallmark of Mountain Music Game Calls. Called a "Swamped" profile, the mouthpiece begins with a certain diameter, slims down from there to the waist, then swells back out again moving forward to the bell of the barrel, just like 18th Century rifle and cannon barrels.
