Seminars

Seminar Schedule this Year

The people below have donated their time at convention to provide seminars that share some of their callmaking techniques. Time and time again, call makers line up to share the tricks of the trade and help continue the tradition of call making. While registration is not required to attend, it is encouraged and appreciated by the seminar presenter. Please consider registering below, and don’t forget to let each of our seminar instructors know how much they are appreciated for volunteering their time.

Thursday February 15th, 2024 - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Seth Hamon

Seth has a ton of talent and has come into the Grand Nationals rather recently. In his short time with the competition his reputation has skyrocketed because of the quality of the calls he submits to the competition. He has won several awards as a result of his ability to understand sound and design principles. We are honored to have him give his first ever seminar this year where he will discuss how to make nibs for crow calls and general Callmaking. This is definitely a highly sought after seminar that you will not want to miss.

Thursday February 15th, 2024 - 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Richard Patterson & Brad Samples

Richard and Brad are back again to offer insight on their techniques in basic relief carving. Their seminar last year was one of the most popular, and it's no surprise given the success these two have seen in the competition. Both have a ton of respect among their peers, have a unique style that is very identifiable, and their works are always highly sought after in our auctions. It is our honor to showcase these call makers and allow them to share their knowledge with anyone who would like to learn from a few of the best in the business.

Thursday February 15th, 2024 - 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Brian Byers & Todd Hanson

Both Brian and Todd are in the 2023 class of the Waterfowl Hall of Fame and have achieved great success in the competition. These two share this time slot but will both be presenting different techniques. Brian is going to show attendees his techniques on laminating a segmented duck call, and Todd is supporting Brian and presenting on Call design, lamination's and technique of construction.

Friday February 16th, 2024 - 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Dave Constantine

Legendary call maker Dave Constantine is no stranger to our competition and our callmaking seminars. A deserving 2023 Hall of Fame inductee, Dave is a well-respected call maker among his peers, and his willingness to teach others makes his seminars popular each year. The NWTF is honored to have Dave as a part of this competition’s long history, and we are excited that he offers so much support to up-and-coming call makers. This year he will focus on his award-winning process of developing design concepts for competition calls, including carving wood-burning and painting. He brings tons of hands-on materials and documentation and allows participants to get involved.

Friday February 16th, 2024 - 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Scott Basehore

Few call makers in this competition have seen the success that Scott Basehore has. His reputation in the callmaking world is astounding, and his year we are honored that Scott is with us to share his workflow. He self-admittedly describes his process as “old school box-call making,” crafting the sound chambers by hand and honing the radius on lids with a belt sander. He will also cover wood selection and offer further insights into his processes during the seminar.

Saturday February 17th, 2024 - 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Brent Hoover

Brent has volunteered his time once again and will share his expertise at relief carving, as well as a few painting techniques he has used successfully. As a highly respected and talented call maker, Brent is an award-winning competition call maker and has submitted many calls across all levels of the Grand Nationals. He drives over 19 hours to be with us every year and is a huge supporter of this competition and the callmaking tradition.
