The Earl Duckett Award

Best Decorative Box Call. AKA First best of Class 1 (Started in 2006)

Earl Duckett gave many years of his life as a volunteer to the Grand National Custom Callmaking Competition. What many never knew was that Earl was always the voice of reason, and he quietly worked behind the scenes to make the competition better. Duckett fought hard for callmakers without ever letting them know there was ever a fight. While he was not a call maker himself, he was a dedicated collector of calls. His collection was not only made up of calls from prestigious call makers, it also contained first-time call makers who calls had no bids toward the end of the auction. Each year Duckett made his way back to Wisconsin with over 100 calls from this competition, some that were big-name collectibles and some that few desired. Duckett was also a significant contributor to the early years of this competition and was always helping make the biggest decisions about the future of the competition. He did all of this without ever asking for a penny. Duckett was a dear friend, mentor and supporter to this competition and the call makers who compete here each and every year. Though he has sold off his collection of calls, Duckett continues to support the competition from the sidelines from his home in Wisconsin. It is fitting for an award to be named after the man who gave so much to this competition – his impact will continue to be felt for years to come.
