Best Scratch Box Sound
This coveted award is named in honor of Jeremiah “Jerry” Stevens, an African American and former slave at the turn on the 19th century in Virginia. Stevens was well-known for his hunting skills and the making of the “gun stock” or scratch box callers. His celebrity status was cemented when he attended sports shows with his great-grandfather and showed of his turkey calls and hunting expertise. It is rumored that American presidents sought his opinions on hunting and sporting firearms because of the fame he had achieved. It’s very fitting that this great award be named in his honor and to be awarded to the best scratch-box turkey callmakers in this competition.
