This entry is titled "The Hen Box". It depicts a hen turkey sitting on her nest as she waits patiently for the arrival of her poults. One of the eggs has already began to hatch. It displays one of my favorite spring treasures, the morel mushroom. I have included a lot of carved habit details to bring realism to this piece. The presence of the ladybug symbolizes the protection a hen has for her poults as they make their grand entrance into the world. This is the largest scale carving that I have done of a wild turkey. I designed and built the box out of local, southern Indiana, Walnut. The handle was made from deer antler. I incorporated a drawer to display a hen box and an area for a proud turkey hunter to store his beards. This piece is a hand carved and hand painted 1 of 1 original by Tim Oldham, Jr.
